The Deschutes neighborhood is where Tumwater's history is most visible. You'll find early-1900s Craftsman bungalows, midcentury ranch homes on generous lots, and pockets of newer construction tucked between them. The Deschutes River winds through the neighborhood, and Tumwater Valley Golf Course wraps along its banks.
Pioneer Park is the social heart of Deschutes — wide lawns, a riverfront path, picnic shelters, and an off-leash dog area. Salmon viewing in the fall draws neighbors out to the river trail throughout October and November.
Because of its location below the bluff and along the river, Deschutes feels quieter and a bit more rural than the rest of Tumwater, while still being a five-minute drive to grocery, schools, and I-5.
